Cookie Clicker runs on the developer's own site
This game is hosted and operated by its own developer, so we send you straight to the official version rather than embedding a copy. You get the current build, from a source we do not have to vouch for second-hand.

Cookie Clicker
Cookie Clicker is the game that invented the modern idle genre, and it is still the funniest, strangest and most compulsive version of it. You click a cookie. Then you buy something that clicks cookies for you. Then the numbers stop being reasonable.

Cookie Clicker tips and strategy
- Buy the cheapest thing that increases production, not the most exciting thing. Early on, cursors and grandmas outperform everything else per cookie spent.
- Never spend down to zero if you are about to unlock a new building tier. Keep a buffer.
- Golden cookies are worth more than they look. Click them even mid-upgrade.
- Idle production keeps running while the tab is closed in most versions, so long breaks are not wasted.
- Do not buy expensive cosmetic or achievement upgrades while your production is still low. They are a later-game purchase.
About Cookie Clicker
The first thirty seconds are exactly what they sound like: click the big cookie, watch a counter go up. The interesting part starts when you spend your first cookies on a Cursor, which clicks for you while you do nothing. From there, buildings scale geometrically β grandmas, farms, factories, mines, shipments, alchemy labs, portals, time machines.
The pacing is the design. Progress doubles roughly every few buildings, so the game constantly feels like it is about to break open. It does, repeatedly, which is why people describe Cookie Clicker sessions in hours rather than minutes.
Scattered through it are golden cookies β rare floating bonuses that grant temporary production multipliers. Catching them at the right moment, with the right upgrades stacked, is where the real optimisation lives once the early game is over.
Cookie Clicker: frequently asked questions
Is Cookie Clicker free?
Yes. The browser version of Cookie Clicker is free to play. A paid version exists on Steam with extra features, but it is not required.
Does Cookie Clicker keep running when I close the tab?
When you reopen it, the game applies a portion of your production as offline progress, so gaps between sessions still count.
How do I get cookies faster in Cookie Clicker?
Buy buildings continuously rather than saving up, prioritise upgrades that multiply existing production, and click every golden cookie you see.
Is Cookie Clicker inappropriate for children?
The tone is satirical and gets progressively stranger in the later buildings, so it is aimed at an older audience than the cartoon art suggests.
